Many personal computer manufacturers will have a number of helpful tips and tools on their websites. Check your manufacturer's (Dell, HP, Sony, Gateway, etc.) website for diagnostic tests that you can run directly from the site. There may also be troubleshooting information or message boards where owners with similar problems can discuss how they resolved them.

Don't think you have time to backup? Think again! Imagine the feeling of losing EVERYTHING….data files, pictures, music and videos that have been purchased. Save some anguish and backup before it is too late. Once you have created the backup disks, then store them at the office or a family member's home in case of fire.

Periodically clean the PC. Supplies needed are cans of compressed air and anti-static wipes. If you are really obsessive, consider a vacuum specifically designed for computers. Clean the monitor, keyboard and case. Unplug the computer and blow out all of the fans. Clean the mouse, it's ball as well as both rollers.
