Sometimes your laptop will appear to be frozen. It will not respond to inputs from the keyboard or the mouse, and your efforts to restart may be futile. The first thing that should be done is disconnect the power cord. Then remove and reinsert the battery, and turn the computer back on.

If there is a problem with power on your laptop, first check to see if the battery is installed correctly. The battery bay is usually on the underside of the laptop, and the battery's design will only allow it to fit into the bay one way. Make sure there is nothing that is interfering with the battery's contacts.

If your notebook feels too hot, check to be sure it is properly ventilated and that the fan port is not blocked. Then put the system in hibernate mode or turn it off for at least an hour. Check to make sure the vents are not blocked and that the correct adapter is being used.
